Expressive Type
Creating a unique word form based on the definition of the word itself was a lot of fun, and turned out to be one of my favorite projects of last semester. My word 'repressed' is defined as being "restrained, inhibited, or oppressed".
While a 'cage' of white space presses in against the word form, I allowed the descender of the 'p' and the ascender of the 'd' to break free. This suggests that the other letterforms have more to themselves that remains hidden (and also improves readability).
My final word form is simple to recognize, visually interesting, and effectively communicates the feeling of being repressed.
